Counting work mileage through the government on my tax return?

If you were not reimbursed, you could deduct the mileage. How you'd do it depends on whether you are an employee, or a contractor for the job. If you get a W-2, you could only claim the mileage if you itemize, and even then could only claim the amount that is over 2% of the adjusted gross income on your tax return. If you are a contractor, the deduction would go on your schedule C or C-EZ.
