Is non stick cooking surfaces, teflon safe? George foreman grill's surfaces safe to cook food on?

I hear so much about the dangers of teflon. Is it safe to cook with those non stick cookware? It's the same materials that make those george foreman grills right? Are there substances or toxins that gets into the food?
