Moving to Hawaii with my 2 kids - good idea or bad idea? where to move? Can we do it?

Well, unemployment in construction runs about 10-12% on Oahu, and higher on the neighbor islands. The cost of living probably similar or higher than the Seattle area, and the salaries are lower. Go onto www.hirenethawaii.com (enter zip code 96822 to use for free) and look at what jobs are available. A 3-bedroomo in a decent area runs at least $2000, and you need a good school district as the schools are nowhere near the quality of Washington State. Sorry to sound like a downer, but that is the reality here right now. Many people work 2 jobs if they can get it to make ends meet. Check out www.honoluluadvertiser.com for more information about Hawaii. If you come, you should have at least $5000 for rent (first and last month plus utilities connections) plus 2-3 months spending money for your family.
