Anyone knows about rainbow/sunbeam snakes?

I have a rainbow/sunbeam snake (Xenopeltis unicolor) which I put in a big aquarium with damp sand and water. I also put a small wooden rounded jar inside and now the snake won't come out from it. I know that rainbow snakes live in burrows and dark places, but how do I know if it's still alive? Is it sleeping, laying eggs, or what?I don't even know if it's a male or female. And from the internet, I found out that this snake needs humidity, and the inside of the jar is dry (I wonder if the water in the aquarium helps). I'm afraid that my snake will develop skin irritation. How do I make the jar humid? I don't want to bother it...
